Memorial and Wellbeing Garden officially opened

The Ian & Clare Mattioli Charitable Trust was honoured to be instrumental in the creation of Leicestershire Police’s new Memorial and Wellbeing Garden, officially opened by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh on Wednesday 16 September.
Families of fallen officers joined officers, staff, volunteers and invited guests for a moving ceremony led by Chief Constable David Sandall. Ian Mattioli attended in his capacity as a Deputy Lieutenant of Leicestershire, accompanied by Clare as his consort.
During the ceremony, Ian thanked the sponsors who helped make the garden possible. He also paid tribute to the bravery of police officers and the sacrifices they make to keep our communities safe. The Duke of Edinburgh unveiled a plaque to mark the garden’s opening.
Created entirely through charitable donations, the refurbished garden offers a calm place to remember colleagues who served with courage and compassion. It also gives officers and staff somewhere to pause, reflect and find a moment of peace.
We are grateful to former Chief Constable Rob Nixon for his vision, and to everyone whose fundraising, donations and work brought the garden to life. Special thanks go to the Samworth Foundation, the Police Benevolent Fund, K2 Polymers, Merlin Construction, Peter Tom, NFDC and UNISON for their support.
We are proud to have played a part in creating a place that will mean so much to the police community for years to come.
